Who's who in the last two? | May 28, 2025

Okay, here's the deal. It's Eamonn's birthday today and I haven't gotten him a gift. So, here's a list of my favourite new releases of the last two weeks, just for Eamonn (it's for everyone, but shhh...)

The Moving Stills - Can't Be Like This Forever

Central Coast favourites The Moving Stills are back with their second single of the year, and the third off an upcoming EP.

The single is another vibrant indie-pop release, using the band's signature blend of surf rock guitars, synths, and foot-tapping drums and base guitar.

'Can't Be Like This Forever' follows the releases of 'Running Out' and 'Telephone', and make up three of the six tracks expected from their next EP, Half Moon Bay, set for release on the 4th of July.

The Moving Stills are currently in NZ supporting Spacey Jane on their Aus/NZ tour, which will also see them perform in Canberra, Newcastle, and Sydney. See more info on their Insta here.

Milly McPherson - Avoca

Sydney musician Milly McPherson has just dropped her debut album, Avoca, and the title track is what we've chosen to highlight here.

The album is 10 tracks long and shares a journey that ranges from codependency, to emotional vulnerability, to evolving views on faith, to natural and environmental beauty. That last part is what the single, 'Avoca' is all about.

We tried to claim a Central Coast connection with the track and album name, but Milly says it's not quite what we claimed.

"Avoca means where great waters meet, where something small becomes something bigger and that is how the album feels from track 1 to 10," said Milly.

"It is also the main street in Randwick which is where all of my love for music began!"

So, not totally inspired by the Central Coast's beaches, but close enough.

Joel Leggett - Light In The Dark

Joel Leggett is back with his second release for the year in the form of the shimmering new single ‘Light In The Dark,’ a bright, bouncy track brimming with catchy melodies and stunning percussive textures.

The track was recorded with long-time collaborator and very good friend of Homebrewed, Jack Nigro, at his Sonora Studios in Tuggerah.

Joel has been pretty cagey on the meaning of his newest release, and is instead wanting to leave the interpretation open, but he did give us this:

"For me, it’s about that slow fading of mutual respect, whether that's between people, within yourself, or even with the world around you. It's about noticing the light shift, the weight change, and finding your own way through it.” - Joel Leggett.

Kisschasy - Lie To Me

A new release from 00's favourites Kisschasy wasn't on my 2025 bingo card, but I'm incredibly glad to have it.

'Lie To Me' is their first release in 15 years, so you might forgive me for being a tad excited!

The track is a perfect way to be curious about the future of Kisschasy whilst also being nostalgic for some of their hits of the 00's, such as 'Opinions Won't Keep You Warm At Night' or 'Spray On Pants'.

The new single is hot off the announcement of a National tour next month, so I'm hoping this means more new music from the Melbourne band!

Merci, Mercy - I Bet She's Really Nice

If there's one thing we can guarantee from a Merci, Mercy track, it's that it will be a reflective bop.

A consistent trend with Merc’s music is having me nod my head to the beat whilst she sings about all the emotions felt in a relationship. ‘I Bet She’s Really Nice’ is no different.

Written about a new partner finding love and feeling replaced, the somewhat sombre verses are juxtaposed by an explosion of noise and feelings in the chorus. Sonically, I get Olivia Rodrigo vibes – and I love it.

She'll be playing a limited three-stop tour next month, so check out her website for more details.
