Dress Theque, Forest Hall - Discipline, Momentum, Play

Back in 2023, Sydney genre benders Dress Theque launched Dress Theque (Selected Recordings) - an email list where fans could sign up for early access and extra context to new releases from the band. In an era where artists are increasingly looking to social media virality to get attention, taking it back to emails felt more intimate than we're used to. It's via this email list that Dress Theque first previewed their latest collaborative single, Discipline, Momentum, Play.

Discipline, Momentum, Play is an enthralling reimagining of fellow Sydney band Forest Hall's Interlude from their 2019 EP Eternal Bummer. Over four-and-a-half minutes, the track traverses a full range of tempos, emotions and moods, with all of it underlined by the incredible drumming that has become synonymous with Dress Theque tracks.

There's no word on live shows from Dress Theque at the minute, but Discipline, Momentum, Play has reminded us that the band has been at work. Make sure you sign up to their aforementioned mailing list if you like what you hear.

Donuts - Fish Bowl

Now, this one falls outside of our ill-enforced mandatory fortnight catchment period, BUT it would be remiss of us not to mention the debut single from the Central Coast's newest alt rock outfit, Donuts. The trio announced themselves with Fish Bowl towards the end of April.

Fish Bowl comes brimming with energy, as Donuts draw on thumping guitar riffs, soaring vocals and tidy tempo shifts to explore the less-than-healthy relationship most of us have with our phones. It's a debut that should have you wanting to taste Donuts IRL.

Donuts been gracing stages across the area since launching back in January, and while they haven't teased any upcoming shows right now, it's a safe bet they're on the horizon. Keep an eye on their socials for those details and more.

Ninajirachi - Fuck My Computer

In one breath, we're putting music in here that was released more than a fortnight ago. In the next, we're featuring music released an hour ago. Shameless? Yes. But if you want us to stick to a format then maybe you should give us one hundred thousand dollars.

Anyway, Ninajirachi has just dropped another absolutely heaving dance track, Fuck My Computer. This track is guaranteed to inject some energy into your Wednesday night, with the DJ and producer drawing on tastes of cyberpop and electro to make you pull faces while jumping around whatever room you're in.

Originally hailing from the Central Coast, Ninajirachi has been riding a well deserved wave of success off the back of last year's album, Girl EDM. Fuck My Computer is the second solo single we've had from her this year and it's safe to say the form line is looking good.

Ninajirachi will be playing a hometown show at Drifters Wharf on May 31, so get yourself down there if you know what's good for you. Keep up with everything else via her socials.

Comar - So Greasy!

When you see new music from Comar, it's safe by now to assume it's gonna be dope. The Central Coast emcee has yet again demonstrated this with his latest drop, So Greasy! This is the second taste we've had of Comar's upcoming album Central Coast's Finest.

So Greasy!  sets a mood straight off the bat, with silky smooth production coming via Comar's golden collaborators L U N A and ISHXII. Comar's delivery follows suit, with the rapper playfully reminding us why he's claiming the mantle of Central Coast's finest. This is a fun one that'll be repeating in your head for days.

It should come as no surprise that we are absolutely frothing to see Comar proudly flying the flag for the Central Coast with each release. There's a whole album's worth coming our way on July 3rd, so keep an eye on Comar's socials for those details.

Ainslie Wills - Surrender

It's deeply satisfying to write about a collection of tracks that are all wildly different to one another, and with Ainslie Wills latest release, Surrender, we can confirm that this article has achieved that. Such is the breadth of Australian music.

This is a stunning single from the Victorian singer-songwriter. Ainslie Wills' spectacular vocals combine with a slow piano melody and some minimalist production to build a beautifully haunted atmosphere. Wills recently gave birth, and this single explores the spectrum of emotions that balancing motherhood and her artistry has brought to the surface.

Surrender is the first new music we've heard from Ainslie Wills in a couple of years. With this as a taste, here's hoping more is on the horizon. You can keep an eye on any new updates via Ainslie Will's insta.
