Who's who in the last two? | June 25, 2025

The weather's getting colder, but the new releases ares still coming in hot! Here's our pick from the last two weeks.

The Sooks - Kickstarter

My wife and my cats' band is back again with another top release.

The Eora/Sydney four piece said that this single kicks off a new era for the band. It’s a little more honest, a little more grown up, but the songs are still made to be shouted back from the crowd.

It was recorded at the Homebrewed Studios (a.k.a Sonora Studios) with local legend and good friend of Homebrewed, Jack Nigro.

The Sooks have indicated that there is more music to come in 2025, so be sure to follow them on Instagram for updates!

EDIE - Girl's Girl

Perth artist EDIE has been refining and grinding away at her craft for the better part of three years now, but the last six to 12 months has been some of her best work in this author's humble opinion.

Fresh off her unsaid EP release last year, EDIE's two singles so far in 2025 being 'Bleed' and now 'Girl's Girl' show a similarly strong direction.

EDIE says that the track is about about the girls who just don’t support other girls. The ones who say they are there for you but then stab you in the back.

If you'd like to learn more about EDIE, we spoke with her back in 2023 - you can listen here.

Little Quirks - Honey

Well, well, well, if it isn't Central Coast favourite and good friends of Homebrewed, Little Quirks.

The now-five-piece band have been hard at work recording new music at Sonora Studios, and their latest single, Honey, is likely a taste of what's yet to come from the band.

When speaking with Homebrewed as part of our Studio Sessions in 2023, the Quirks said they were shifting towards a more guitar-driven sound, slightly departing from their folkier roots.

The release of Honey certainly continues that direction, and their decision to once again work with Jack Nigro who has produced records for The Terry's Rum Jungle, Pacific Avenue, and Dune Rats just to name a few, is a decision that will prove the right one for their new sound.

British India - The Gospel Of Luke

The band famously hailing from Victoria's capital, Melbourne, have just dropped their first song of 2025.

I filled this article with nostalgia a month ago when Kisschasy dropped their first song in 15 years, and whilst a first new release since 2017 from British India isn't as monumental, it's still a pretty decent dose of a nearer form of nostalgia.

It's a slightly different looking British India, too, with founding member and guitarist Nic Wilson no longer a part of the band.

Frontman Declan Melia has spoken about their return, saying he just wants to play live rock 'n' roll. He said his motivation to write new music was non-existent, until he came up with 'The Gospel Of Luke.;

The Melbourne band will be going on tour later this year.

Montaigne - Best Case Scenario

Friend of the show Montaigne has just released their first album as an entirely independent, self-produced artist.

We've featured previous tracks like 'talking shit' and 'everybody else' in this recurring blog, but I really want to celebrate the artist that is Montaigne.

This track really has me thinking in the same way 'Dying Song' did a few years ago: it's either a really bizarre and unique character-driven story, or it's a brilliant piece of introspective art. Either way, it's well-worth a listen.

Their self-produced album it's hard to be a fish is a delight in a way that only Montaigne can deliver, so you might as well check out the whole thing whilst you're there.
