Who's who in the last two? | March 5, 2025

Writer: Cameron SmithCameron Smith

Plenty of new releases from the last two weeks, but only five can be chosen. Who will we pick? There's only one way to find out. Read below!

Rum Jungle - Hi Hello

Newcastle band Rum Jungle have delighted us for a number of years now, and their latest release is no different.

There's a retro theme with the release of 'Hi Hello'. There's synths that wouldn't feel out of place in a Van Halen track, echoed vocals reminiscent of Queen, and of course, that stunning 80's-fitness film clip!

Rum Jungle are set to finish their National tour over the coming days before embarking on a US tour to finish the month.

Phoebe Joy - Double Down

Phoebe Joy's month got off to a steaming start, with the Wadalba artist releasing her debut EP on the 1st of March, closely followed my a successful EP launch on the same night. And now? Well, she's been included in the coveted Homebrewed Who's Who article. Talk about success!

In all seriousness, the EP is terrific and we've selected the title track 'Double Down' as the one to feature.

Phoebe told Homebrewed toward the end of last month that 'Double Down' was only recorded a few months ago, but she felt it was a nice way to end the EP.

It's the most raw and honest song she's written to date, and more vulnerability could be on the menu for further tracks down the line.

If you like Greta Ray or Holly Humberstone, get around Phoebe Joy and her new EP 'Double Down'.

Spacey Jane - How To Kill Houseplants

As someone who has killed a monstera and has a wife who has somehow managed to kill an air plant, the latest song from Spacey Jane felt like an attack.

Turns out, it's more a metaphor for a relationship. “I feel awful and I want to save this thing and I don’t know how to do it. I should know how to do this by now, but I don’t: I’ve killed 35 creeping ivies," said lead singer Caleb Harper.

The relatable song is off an upcoming album called If That Makes Sense due May 9, where they went to the U.S and spent time working with different collaborators.

Spacey Jane will also be spending some time on the road this year on a National tour, including stops in Newcastle and Sydney.

EDIE - Bleed

We usually focus a lot of our time on the music in these articles (for obvious reasons), but if you're going to watch one film clip today, make it this one.

Perth artist Edie has been mastering her dark pop energy with her most recent releases, and 'Bleed' definitely follows that trend.

The track itself is is about Edie's frustration with modern dating. "It seems like no one wants to commit and only wants to lead you on in these long, drawn-out, awful situationships," said Edie.

Milly McPherson - Religious

Fresh off releasing her first single of 2025 'Milly's Song', Sydney musician Milly McPherson has released her second single off an upcoming album.

There is already a third single set to be released before the album in May, and the second single, 'Religious', follows on from the sound of 'Milly's Song', which we premiered last month.

Sonically, I get hints of Dulcie meets Little Quirks, which is a pretty fab combo!
