THIS ONE IS EVEN LATER THAN MY LAST ONE - SORRY!! Cop the best new releases from the last fortnight (which actually ended on July 9th) below.
Suede Effect - Mellow Nights
Darkinjung psychpunksurf rockers Suede Effect have dropped their first single of 2025, Mellow Nights. After bursting onto the local scene last year and dropping a debut EP soon after, Suede Effect have confirmed that Mellow Nights is the first taste of their upcoming second EP, due out later this year.
Live audiences have been soaking up Mellow Nights for some time and - after identifying it as a fan favourite - Suede Effect have finally jumped in the studio to record it. This track is an epic example of Suede Effect's ability to mix and blend a range of rock sensibilities. Mellow Nights seamlessly bounces between gentle psychedelia and heavy, distorted, head-banging rock.
If you know what's good for you, you'll undoubtedly be itching to catch Suede Effect live. The band stand ready to scratch that itch with an upcoming local show alongside Dialectic at The Savoy in Long Jetty on July 24. Grab details for that one and keep up with Suede Effect via their socials.
Kitty of the Valley - Changes
Eora band Kitty of the Valley have released Changes, the second cut from their upcoming debut EP. Changes marks only single number five for Kitty of The Valley since their 2024 inception - a fact you'd be forgiven for mistaking given just how well the band are developing.
Changes is a slow burning atmospheric dream. Frontwoman Allegra Pezzullo shines as the track spends its first two-and-a-half minutes building through a bed of distortion and charming melodies. The inevitable explosion sees Changes soar into a beautifully arranged wall of noise before dragging us back down to earth. It's an epic listen.
Kitty of the Valley have just played a couple of live shows across Sydney over the weekend, and while we can't find any coming after, it's a safe bet that they're on the horizon. Keep your eyes and ears peeled via their socials.
Cut Copy - When This is Over
Just as the nation prepares to finalise their votes for the Hottest 100 of Australian songs, Indie electro legends Cut Copy have reminded us why they deserve a seat at that table. When This is Over is the second new single Cut Copy have dished up this year, as they prepare for the release of their seventh studio album, Moments on September 5th.
Setting off from a bed of minimalist production, When This is Over steadily builds, introducing futuristic synth and looped vocals blended with more traditional guitar melodies and cowbell percussion. It's vintage Cut Copy. The track reaches crescendo via a bridge built out of a children's choir, exploding into a bright and rich soundscape that should have Cut Copy fans grinning ear to ear.
With the announcement of Moments, Cut Copy also shared some upcoming tour dates in Australia and North America. You can find those dates on their website, and be sure to keep up with the band via their socials.
Fletcher Kent - Wasted
Central Coast-cum-NYC artist Fletcher Kent has dropped his love-drenched third single, Wasted. This track represents another feather in the cap for Fletcher Kent, who has so far shared three very different singles with the world
Wasted is an ode to the blissful loss of control that comes with falling in love. This one has a more traditional indie rock feel to it, with Fletcher's unmistakable vocals and an incredibly catchy hook standing as highlights. Fletcher says that Wasted is all about "Becoming intoxicated by the essence of this person - love drunk. Both feeling lit up by the new flame yet also kind of out of control as you realise you’re invested past the point of no return."
Fletcher Kent has spent the last few months enjoying a residency at Hamish and Andy's New York dive bar, Old Mates. If you're in that part of the world, make sure you get there and check him out. For the rest of us, Fletcher's socials are there so you can watch from afar.
ASTON - Boy Toy
While we're in the US, another artist hailing from the Central Coast is continuing to make waves in LA. Aston has just dropped her second single of the year, Boy Toy. Known for her bold and attitude-heavy approach to pop music, Aston has been steadily building a sizeable fan base over the last few years.
Despite her recent success, Aston confessed in a recent post that she had hit a creative wall last year, ultimately leading to a fresh start. Boy Toy is the first step in that fresh start for Aston. The single leans a lot more into dance and electro pop stylings than we've preciously heard from Aston, and it's sounding like a great fit. With over 80k streams and counting on Spotify, others seem to agree.
Keep up with new releases and everything Aston is up to in LA via her socials.
