Who's Who in the Last Two? | August 6, 2025

We were absolutely spoilt for choice when it came to releases over the last fortnight. Feast on our picks below and direct your wrongful omission complaints to our office in Antarctica.

DVNTS - Happy

Every now and then we stumble across a band from the Central Coast that we really ought to have known about sooner. DVNTS are the latest example of this. The three piece punk rock outfit have been at it since 2023, but their latest single Happy serves as our introduction to their music.

Happy is an extremely impressing offering from DVNTS. On about your fourth listen, when you can finally pull yourself away from all the head banging, take a moment to notice just how well composed this track really is. It's got sharp guitar riffs, walls of noise, punchy delivery and clever lyricism.

Happy is just begging to be seen live, and while the lads from DVNTS haven't announced any upcoming shows just yet, it's a safe bet that they're on the horizon. Keep your eye on that horizon and more via their socials.

RONA. - Show Me

Kaytetye producer RONA. has just dropped her first standalone single of 2025, Show Me. This is an unsurprisingly insightful listen, further entrenching RONA's amazing ability to tell stories and explore culture through electronic music.

Show Me was released alongside a spectacular music video shot by award winning Arrernte and Kalkadoon director Tyson Perkins. Set in a futurist sci fi world, the video is visually stunning. Speaking of her collaboration with Perkins, RONA. said , “[Tyson and I] were both drawn to exploring the absurdity of the colonial race to space, and instead imagined a future grounded in remembrance, in resistance, and in return."

If you wanna immerse yourself in RONA.'s world live, she'll be playing MODE Festival in Eora/Sydney on October 11th. Find info about this show and more on RONA's website.

Deadshowws - Summer Rust

Darkinjung's "perpetually tired" heavy hitters Deadshowws are back with their second single of 2025, Summer Rust. Deadshowws have been making bigger and bigger waves with each new release, and this one is no exception.

Summer Rust is a soaring offering from the Budgewoi four piece, with Deadshowws blending familiar emo stylings with more metal influences. The result is an explosive dive into the feeling of mental decay that comes with being in a bad headspace.

If you're craving the live experience, Deadshowws will be taking this single on tour up in Queensland, with three headline shows booked for Meanjin/Brisbane, Tulmur/Ipswich and Yugambeh/Gold Coast. Grab tickets and touring details via the band's website.

Stella Donnelly - Standing Ovation

Rejoice! Stella Donnelly is back with her first new music since 2022. Donnelly's return to releasing comes via a double A side release comprised of Baths and Standing Ovation. This release is the first since Stella Donnelly signed with Dot Dash Recordings / Remote Control Records, with the Narrm/Melbourne artist declaring that “It felt like the right time for a reset, creatively, personally, and professionally."

Standing Ovation begins in new territory, with Donnelly's vocals the focus, accompanied only by gentle synth notes. The track pivots beautifully at the halfway mark; picking up steam and stepping into some lovely jangly indie territory. It's more than enough to put a smile on your dial.

There's no word on upcoming live shows from Stella Donnelly right now, but her step back into releasing suggests more shows and more music can't be too far away. Keep up with the latest from Donnelly via her socials.

CLEWS - You're So Mine

South-Coast-cum-Sydney sister duo CLEWS have gifted us You're So Mine. This track, they're telling us, is the first of many to be released this year, "most of them romantic, this one sickeningly so."

Romance is definitely the theme of You're So Mine, but this one appears to be a love song that sisters Lily and Grace Richardson have dedicated to one another. It's a beautiful track, both lyrically and sonically. The CLEWS signature harmonies abound, complimented by layers of gentle guitar and a spoken word section to wrap the song up.

There's no upcoming shows listed for CLEWS at the minute, but we know they'll have things to share in the coming months. Follow their socials to catch the next update.
