Who's who in the last REDACTED? | October 4, 2025

Two weeks? Three? Four? Weeks are just a number. What matters is our opinion on songs released during a period of time that we deem suitable. No further questions.

The Ten Drones - Immaterial

When Sydney's Dress Theque called it quits a few months ago the end felt too abrupt. Julian Wilkinson, Michael Thurbin and Daniel Nutton had been putting out music for eight years as Dress Theque, and it would have been criminal to fully extinguish that creative flame. When Julian from the band reached out to share his new solo project - The Ten Drones - we could breathe relief that some of the foundations for Dress Theque were kicking on.

The project, Julian tells us, reflects his development as a man and a creative. He's recently become a father, began working at one of Sydney's most stunning cemeteries, and found himself immersed in a medley of influences made up both of hip-hop and artists like like Lana Del Ray and Enya. Immaterial is the first offering from The Ten Drones. Sonically, you can hear all of the aforementioned influences in Immaterial; plus the drama and genre melding that made Dress Theque's music so compelling.

It's early doors for The Ten Drones, but Immaterial already has us pining for whatever is coming next. Follow The Ten Drones here for updates.

Saint Milana - Go!

Darkinjung singer, songwriter and now band hav-er Saint Milana has just dropped her first single of 2025, Go! At only 19 years old, Saint Milana has already released two self-produced albums, so this is a space you probably wanna be watching.

Go! is a bright and energetic release from Saint Milana, drawing on noughties influences and Saint's epic vocal range to craft a track that is just begging to be played live. The track signals a step into a more instrument-heavy and expansive sound for Saint Milana, who has also recently announced the assembling of her band. Central Coast music aficionados will note some familiar faces in that announcement!

There's no word on upcoming gigs from Saint Milana just yet, but you can count on something being just around the corner. Go! is guaranteed to get crowds screaming in unison. Keep up with everything Saint Milana via her website.

Little Quirks - I Waited Up

Central Coast five piece Little Quirks have just dropped a new EP, The Beast. It's the first body of work they've released since their 2024 self titled debut album. I Waited Up is the infectious final single the 'Quirks gifted us ahead of their EP release.

In keeping with the theme of their new EP, I Waited Up is a step further into new flavours for Little Quirks. The track leans deeper into pop sensibilities without compromising the charm that has built the band a global fanbase. I Waited Up was recorded at Sonora Studios in Tuggerah with Jack Nigro and he has absolutely worked his magic. The track's production is top shelf, making for an incredibly catchy listen.

Props must also be given to the above music video! The band says this was made on with some Kmart toys and a butternut pumpkin in a hotel room while they were on tour. If you want to catch Little Quirks live, they're playing everywhere from Fitzroy to Newcastle this month. Catch dates and tickets via their website.

Pilot Buffalo - Moths

Staying in Darkinjung country, it'd be remiss of us not to mention the debut self-titled album that Pilot Buffalo gifted us a month ago. The boys have been refining their epic brand of psych-rock for a few years now, building a solid reputation via countless sweaty live shows across the area.

If you've slept on Pilot Buffalo up until this point, let Moths be your introduction. The track is exploding with energy and showcases the band's nous for playfulness and storytelling through their lyrics. Pilot Buffalo performed Moths along with a handful of other tracks as part of our Studio Sessions series a little while back. Catch that video here.

If, after that, you find yourself longing for the Pilot Buffalo live experience, you can catch them playing at The FunHaus factory later this month alongside a stellar local lineup. Catch the details for that show and everything Pilot Buffalo via their socials.

Tesse - The Newsreader

Tesse is the project of Eora multidisciplinary artist Tom Stephens. Stephens has been consistently crafting absolute gems since his first album How it all Unfolds was released in 2018. We're now at LP number three for Tesse, having just dropped Dead Night Drive.

The Newsreader is a superb sample of Tesse's latest album. It's arresting from the jump, opening with gentle percussion and a charming guitar melody. Stephens' delightful vocals soon follow, guiding his audience through a fuzzy exploration of trust and time. It's the perfect taste of Dead Night Drive, and you owe it to yourself to listen to the record in full.

Tesse is playing a Dead Night Drive album launch show at low 302 in Surry Hills next Friday, October 10th. Catch details for that show and everything Tesse via his socials.
